Shakespeare in Love
Released: 1998
Again, supposed to be a Romantic movie with some humor
Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Joseph Fiennes, Geoffrey Rush
Director: John Madden
Running Time: 123 minutes
Rated R
The breakdown: Young Will Shakespeare has no good ideas for a new play and he's under the gun, he has sold this play he hasn't written to 2 different people. He's out of money and has no fast way of making any. He meets a girl and she inspires him to write a great story.
Um, I really don't know how this got nominated and won any Oscars, much less 7. It must've been a really weak year for good movies because this won for best film of the year. Anyway, Will Shakespeare sells his next unwritten play to 2 different men. He has zero good ideas for this next play of his, so he starts looking for a muse. He meets this girl he likes but she is promised to a Lord, and he's already married anyway. He writes this great story (Romeo and Juliet) and wants a man to star in it. She really wants to be in it, but can't since she's a girl and ladies are not permitted to act. So, she dressed as a man and gets the part without him seeing it's her. He learns of her lie and they start an affair. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!
They know it can't work out and it doesn't. They do not end up together at the end as she escapes England and moves to America alone. It's a crappy movie with a crappy ending. Skip it!
I give it 1 out of 5 ticket stubs for a few smiles it got out of me.
